I strive to shop local especially during the holidays. Mouth.com has a variety tasty treats from independent food producers from across the country. I was pleasantly surprised to see some Maine companies in the mix and just had to share this find with you.
There are a whole bunch of people out there who love Maine and wish they could live here but can’t. Many people consider Maine their home even though they reside in another state. If you have a special person in your life who love Maine, give them a little taste of their favorite place this holiday.
Bixby Bars Co. makes delicious, wholesome chocolate bars. My favorite is the Bing Cherry Chipotle Peanut Bar. The Bixby Bar is produced in Rockland, Maine. Kate McAleer is a real power house and inspiring woman leader in the Maine business world.
The Oyster River Winegrowers is relatively close by to Monhegan as well. Aside from the 1 hour boat ride, we can get there in less than 1/2 an hour fromPort Clyde. I tried their hard cider this fall and reallyenjoyed the musky, mead-like quality of this slightly bubbly beverage.
The Oyster River Winegrowers farm doesn’t just grow grapes and apples for wine, they also grow vegetables all using sustainable farming practices. They offer a CSA all year-round which they deliver with Clydedale horse and carriage every week. Very cool people, doing very cool things. Their product is great and their work is worth supporting.
Cold River makes vodka and gin from Maine grown potatoes. Their passion for making great spirits from Maine grown potatoes comes through in the taste. I drink the Cold River Gin in a chilled martini and love it. No need to add juices or mixers to this elixir, the flavor of the spirit is all you need.
Mouth.com offers a variety of products from independent food producers from all over the country. They will have a the perfect gift for your favorite foodies somewhere in this mix.
I recommend these Maine crafted treats because they are near and dear in my backyard. There were a few honorable mentions from the New England area as well, including:
Vermont Creamery, really delicious goat cheese, Vermont
Carr’s Cider House, apple cider vinegar and apple cider syrup, Massachusettes
Larchmont Charcuterie, pork meats aged to perfection, New York
